SUBJECT:   University of Texas at Arlington Sustainability, Energy Management - Climate Action Master Plan to achieve Zero Carbon Emission by 2040

SPEAKER:   Aijaz Khan & Meghna Tare - UTA 

BIO:

Aijaz serves as an Energy Manager at University of Texas at Arlington (UTA), where he oversees Office of Facilities Management’s Campus-wide Energy & Utilities Management Program, including collaboration with UTA’s office of Sustainability.  

He has 25+ years of technical, construction and project management experience, including 15+ years of energy management and Sustainability Program for the Commercial, Education (North Central Texas K-12 & Higher Ed.), Industrial and Municipal Government Vertical Market.  

He is passionate about effective facilities management, reducing Green House Gas Emissions and enjoy developing solutions to reduce overall utility and operations and maintenance costs. Currently, he is serving as one of the Board of Directors & a co-chairs of Awards Committee w/North Texas Association of Energy Engineers (NTAEE). In acknowledgement of significant contributions to the Energy industry, in 2020, Association of Energy Engineer (AEE) granted Aijaz the fellow member (highest level of membership).  

Aijza graduated with a MS in engineering from University of Southern California (USC) and is an active Licensed Professional Engineer (PE), LEED-AP, Certified Energy Manager (CEM), Certified Demand Side Manager (CDSM) & Certified Energy Auditor (CEA). 

Meghna serves as the Chief Sustainability Officer at The University of Texas at Arlington (UTA), where she supports the operations and strategic planning for the university-wide sustainability practices programs and policies in collaboration with university operations units, academic and research units, student organizations, and external partners.

 Meghna is also supporting Dallas FIFA World Cup 2026 as Chief Sustainability Officer. Her focus is on minimizing the event's environmental footprint while empowering communities and leaving a legacy of positive change in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

 She is the founder and director of the Regional Center of Expertise for Education in Sustainable Development (RCE North Texas), a program of the United Nations University. She was awarded the 2022 United Nations Association Global Leadership Award.

 Meghna serves on the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine’s Roundtable on Science and Technology for Sustainability, and on the Board of Directors for ICLEI USA (International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives).

 She graduated with an MBA in Sustainable Management, MS in Environmental Science, and MS in Chemistry.
