Happy New Year!
As we enter the new year, I would like to take a moment to appreciate the hard work and dedication of members that served our chapter in 2023 with special thanks to Madden Dillard and baby Sloane for their leadership.
I am so grateful to the volunteers that have chosen to serve in 2024. Joining a leadership team is a wonderful way to develop invaluable organization, management skills and build relationships. As of now, we have three committee chair positions open:
1) Community Service - This committee conducts energy audit free of charge for non-profit organizations.
2) Scholarship - The committee reviews student scholarship applications and distributes the Jim Phillips Memorial scholarship fund.
3) Annual Energy Conference - Planning begins early for our conference in October.

As you know, energy engineers face many challenges in developing and deploying solutions that can meet the growing energy demand while reducing greenhouse gas emissions and ensuring energy security and reliability. Some of the challenges are:
· integrating renewable energy sources into existing grid infrastructure
· improving energy efficiency
· developing new materials and processes that can withstand high temperatures, pressures, corrosions, and radiations in advanced energy systems such as nuclear fusion reactors
· ensuring safety and security of energy infrastructure and operations from cyberattacks, natural disasters or human errors
· environmental impacts of energy production and consumption such as land use , water consumption, waste management and public acceptance.
These challenges require collaborative efforts from engineers, scientists, and government to find innovative and sustainable solutions. I am excited and I invite you to join me to learn, grow, innovate, and contribute!
Please note that our annual membership expires December end. Please take a moment to renew your membership. For the January 18th meeting, we have invited State Representative Jared Patterson to share with us the regulatory changes in ERCOT since the winter storm. So, join us and bring in your questions to the meeting. Thank You.
